BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, plus Pride Month is celebrated every June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. Celebrations include pride parades, picnics, workshops, symposia, and memorials are held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The commemorative month's purpose is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, plus individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
As requested on the March 22, 2022 Board Meeting, presented for Board consideration and approval is a proclamation designating the month of June of 2022 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, plus Pride Month in the County of San Benito.
