BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The San Benito Free County Library, under the direction County Librarian Nora Conte, was awarded a $499,999.00 2020 Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Grant for improved access to reliable internet connections and library resources in the community during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The acceptance of the IMLS grant funds was approved at the October 20, 2020 Board of Supervisors meeting.
In August 2021, a department-funded Capital Project was requested for a 24-Hour Library kiosk. Envisionware Library Kiosk was identified as a fully automated, self-service branch library book delivery infrastructure.
The placement of the Envisionware 24-Library kiosk at the Sunnyside Park location (at Hospital Road and Riverview Way) as well as the associated Capital Improvement Project and budget transfer for site planning, site construction, kiosk unit costs, canopy structure, electrical upgrades, soft costs, taxes and delivery expenditures was approved at the December 14, 2021 Board of Supervisors meeting.
This expenses is Grant funded via the IMLS grant covered above. The funding currently sits in the General Fund and will move to the Capital Projects fund just as it was intended and budgeted to do.
