BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

Shari A. Stevenson began serving the San Benito County Veteran Community as an American Legion, Auxiliary member in 2009 and as a Foreign Wars Auxiliary Member in 2010. Shari started working as the San Benito County Representative on August 15, 2011. 

 

As the accredited Veterans Service Representative for San Benito County, Shari Stevenson, has dedicated to serving all veterans in San Benito County. Despite a year defined by COVID limitations and restrictions, the San Benito County Military and Veterans Affairs (MVAO) Office adapted and never wavered in its mission by actively participating in 11 outreach events and contacting 81 new Veterans or service members. The Military and Veterans Affairs Office responded to 326 information requests and made 302 in-person, virtual or telephonic benefits appointments while returning a 90% customer satisfaction survey rate. Five hundred fifty-four individual claim actions were also filed on behalf of 330 San Benito Co. Veterans, resulting in 193 Dept. of Veterans Affairs awards for Disability, Pension Burial, or Survivor's claims. On behalf of San Benito Co. Veterans, the Military and Veterans Affairs Office's efforts garnered Dept. of Veterans Affairs $746,078 in retroactive disability payments and $1,017,204 in tax-free recurring monthly disability compensation payments. They waived $235,584 of college tuition fees for 34 San Benito Co. disabled Veterans' dependents.
