AGENDA SECTION:

CONSENT AGENDA

BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

Executive Summary:

The Information Technology Division is requesting approval of the attached renewal contract for the purchase of a one-year renewal cybersecurity software subscription with County IT approved budget.

Background:

On December 15, 2020 the County Administrative Officer approved a contract for the purchase of Crowdstrike Falcon Complete software protection against computer viruses and endpoint cybersecurity threats. Over the past year this solution has proven effective in preventing known, unknown threats and malicious activity against the County’s technology infrastructure. As threats continue to evolve and resources continue to be limited, County IT is requesting the renewal of this software to continue to protect our County’s network infrastructure. The solution has proven effective as part of our critical security infrastructure coverage in actively identifying, monitoring and protecting our endpoints.

Analysis:

Cybersecurity is imperative in protecting and maintaining the integrity of the County’s technology infrastructure and general business functions. Using internet-based tools for everyday tasks is essential in the modern workplace but does pose risk to cyber threats such as hacking, ransomwares, and other malicious activities. Having an up-to-date set of cybersecurity tools and monitoring tools is essential in protecting the County from such threats. Current County staff hours and resources are very limited and it is difficult to keep up with this ever-evolving threat. This requires a dedicated team of experts and developers to create tools to assist in identifying and monitoring the threats and mitigating them. Please keep in mind that as our electronic footprint continues to grow, especially with remote access (outside network accessed systems), implementing tools that will improve our security posture is essential for business continuity.

The Information Technology Division staff has evaluated the software protection service and has identified ePlus Technology, Inc., as a Crowdstrike reseller for the purchase renewal of a one-year contract in the total amount not to exceed $61,397.00.
