AGENDA SECTION:
REGULAR AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The United States Postal Service have expressed their frustration accessing two roads located in the southern portion of the County. In addition to providing access for local residents, Panoche Road and New Idria Road have been experiencing increased use by outdoor enthusiasts during the weekends.
These roads are a gateway to three recreational areas owned by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM): Panoche Hills, Tumey Hills and Griswold Hills. In recent years, the increasing number of visitors to this region has accelerated the deterioration of the roadways.
There are segments of the roads that cannot be remediated thru the sole activity of filling potholes and, in some locations, local residents prefer to utilize the dirt shoulders in lieu of the failing roadway prism. Consequently, the County has produced a Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) cost estimate to rehabilitate the distressed segments of these two roads.
