BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
Annually every calendar year, one Supervisor of the five Board of Supervisors members serves as the Chair of the Board of Supervisors. To function effectively, groups need a leader. A Board Chair is approachable and available. Critical roles include being objective and listening actively, being a strategist, knowledgeable about the organization and board practices, a coach, and a conciliator. In addition, they must have a presence in the community where they are a trusted voice and respected. The Chair is tasked with leading our Board and County's legislature. Some of the responsibilities, if not mentioned previously, are:
- The Chair operates and runs our Board of Supervisor Meetings
- Sets goals and objectives for the board and ensures that they are met.
- Ensures that all board members are involved in committee activities; assigns committee members.
- Motivates board members to attend meetings.
The Chair carries a vast amount of responsibility and, as such, deserves applause and recognition. It has been an established tradition to recognize the board's outgoing Chair with a plaque commemorating the term served as Board Chair.
