SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT - D. THOMPSON
Approve lease with Alameda Plaza Associates for Sheriff's "sub-station" located in San Juan Bautista at the rate of $100/month.
SBC FILE NUMBER: 110
AGENDA SECTION:
CONSENT AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The City of San Juan Bautista contracts with our office for police services. Historically there was a "sub-station" in the Windmill Market shopping center in San Juan Bautista. After that, there was an office for our staff to use at San Juan School. For the last 8 years, we have not had a workspace in San Juan Bautista for our staff. This creates a hardship for us to meet with witnesses, victims and to work on reports. It is common practice for law enforcement agencies to have "sub-stations" and/or community centers for the public to interact with our office and for staff to work on reports.
Our office has an opportunity to have an "office" once again within the footprint of the Windmill Market center. This office not only provides a great advantage to our staff, but to the communities of the greater San Juan Bautista service areas as well as Aromas. It will help keep our deputies closer to the western edge of the county while working on paperwork, eating, and/or using the restroom. This office will provide a safe space to interact with the community and extend our reach and services to western San Benito County. It will, most importantly, keep our deputies in the western San Benito county more often to help with coverage and response times. Currently, staff must return to our headquarters to process reports, eat and use the restroom.
Financial Consideration
Lease payments are in the amount of $100/month. The initial term of this lease is 1 year with an option for an additional 4 years. The Landlord will be responsible for utilities and garbage. Furnishings and computers will be from surplus currently being stored at the Sheriff's Office.
Although this has not been specifically budged, the fiscal year amount of $400 (March - June) can be absorbed within the approved allocations.
