BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
Under the threat of COVID-19, the Governor issued executive orders (N-67-20 & N-67-20) and signed State Assembly (Bill 860) ahead of the upcoming November election. The orders require counties to make every reasonable attempt to make ballot drop boxes locations available.
The Elections Department wishes to comply by offering an alternative solution for Vote-by-Mail (VBM) voters to easily and securely drop off their ballot in-person. Drop boxes will be locked and covered, made available to the public starting 29 days prior to the election, and where feasible, monitored by a video security surveillance system.
The request is being submitted to grant the County Clerk-Auditor-Recorder/Registrar of Voters authority to sign all Real Estate License (aka "Ballot Dropbox") Agreements, which will streamline the process of securing dropbox locations for the November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election.
