SUBJECT:

TREASURER/TAX COLLECTOR'S OFFICE  - M. CASILLAS

The San Benito County Tax Collector respectfully requests consideration of the discharge of the following Delinquent Unsecured Taxes. These taxes have become uncollectable in the normal course of business. The discharge of these taxes does not relieve the taxpayer of their responsibility to pay the taxes, they just cannot be subject to further aggressive means of collection, especially with respect to bank seizures. The office of the San Benito County Tax Collector intends to continue to pursue the payment of these taxes.

AGENDA SECTION:

CONSENT AGENDA

BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

This attached lists represent the final clean-up of the request from 2019 and the additional year of 2016 that have fallen into this category.

The final clean up from 2019 and prior to my elected status, represents $338,400.61.

.

The 2016 discharge request is $39.313.87.

Many businesses on both lists overlap, and it is our intention to reach out to those businesses that have not paid for multiple years.

The collection rate for 2020 on Current Unsecured is $97.28% as of 04/10/2020. Current Unsecured become delinquent each July 1st, and cannot be part of the customary collection process after 3 years.

These discharges will be offset against the various agencies that were originally paid under the Teeter Plan. The General Fund offset represents about 11 cents of the total; approximately $41,549.
