CONSENT AGENDA

BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

On March 6, 2020, under Government Code section 8630, designated officials proclaimed a local emergency in the County of San Benito due to the Coronavirus.

Coronavirus

A novel coronavirus (named COVID-19) was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, in December 2019. Since then the number of reported COVID-19 cases have escalated dramatically over a short period of time. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers the virus to be a very serious public health threat, based on current information. In part, the virus is considered a serious public health threat because much is unknown as COVID-19 is a new disease and we are still learning how it spreads.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states "It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads."

The County is moving forward  with an emergency cleaning contract to expand disinfecting cleaning services in County facilities, to kill germs on surfaces, to lower the risk of spreading infection.  The County Administrative Officer signed the contract so that emergency disinfecting services could begin immediately, in order to prioritize the health and safety of our community and employees.

The Contract expands current cleaning services to all County facilities, in order to disinfect all public areas daily. In addition, it offers an on-call service if there are additional cleaning needs. A copy of the contract is attached for the Board's consideration and ratification.
