Receive the Homeless/Housing Capital Development Projects Report from Health & Human Services Agency.
SBC FILE NUMBER: 130
AGENDA SECTION:
REGULAR AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
There is no doubt that there is a homeless problem in our community. This is evident with the high number of homeless individuals roaming downtown on a daily basis and in other areas of the County. Although there was a decrease in the homeless population (according to the 2019 Homeless Census), we are far from solving the homeless problem. The County of San Benito has been working together with the Homeless Service Providers Committee for over 5 years through HHSA's division of Community Services & Workforce Development (CSWD).
Over the last 5 years, there has been many achievements that have led to successful fund development efforts resulting in securing over $9,000,000 for capital development projects benefiting homeless or at-risk of homelessness. The grants received over the last 5 years for Capital related projects include:
1. 2014 CDBG: $1,500,000
2. 2016 CDBG: $1,500,000
3. Homeless Emergency Assistance Program (HEAP): $1,875,000
4. Transitional Housing Funding: $1,450,000
5. Whole Person Care Housing Funding: $1,600,000
6. HOME First Time Home Buyers Program (FTHB): $1,100,000
Health and Human Services Agency will give presentation on the status of these projects.
