BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE), in partnership with the Resource Conservation District of Monterey County (RCDMC) is submitting a proposal to the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection for a Fire Prevention Education grant. The UCCE is pursuing this grant to promote the use of prescribed fire in San Benito, Monterey, and Santa Cruz counties. Additionally, UCCE and RCDMC will be pursuing the establishment of a Prescribed Burn Association (PBA) for landowners of both public and private lands, buying prescribed fire tools and equipment, educating PBA members about techniques and methods used for prescribed burning, and conducting outreach and education for the general public about.
The attached letter details the need San Benito County has for these types of programs and expresses the Board of Supervisors' support for the UCCE's grant application.
