BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The mission of the San Benito County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is to operate a non-profit organization to promote economic growth and development in San Benito County, California through business attraction, retention, expansion and creation, while maintaining and preserving our agricultural land and rural environment. The primary focus of EDC is increasing the economic vitality in San Benito County.
The Economic Development Corporation is a non-profit organization with an IRS designation as a private nonprofit public support organization or 501(c)(3). The EDC is governed by a Board of Directors made up of community volunteers who have expertise in a wide range of local business issues.
In order to positively impact the economic growth of San Benito County, the EDC collaborates with the City of Hollister, the City of San Juan Bautista, San Benito County, workforce development, other local and regional business organizations as well as educational institutions.
Through its efforts, the EDC strives to maintain and enhance San Benito County as a competitive location for both current and prospective businesses to succeed.
During the FY 19/20 budget hearings the Board of Supervisors approved the allocation of $100,000 for EDC. Staff has negotiated a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the EDC, reflecting the County's allocation of $100,000.00 annually for a period of five Fiscal Years, to support economic development within San Benito County, subject to a budget allocation clause for subsequent fiscal years. The draft MOU is submitted for the Board's consideration.
