BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
Community Services & Workforce Development (CSWD) has been awarded a HOPWA (Housing Opportunity for Persons with Aids) grant from the City of San Jose in the amount of $50,000 for each of the next three fiscal years, 7/1/19-6/30/20, 7/1/20-6/30/21 and 7/1/21-6/30/22 ($150,000 total). The Program is intended to provide resources and incentives to devise long-term comprehensive strategies for meeting the needs of persons with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or related diseases and their families. CSWD will provide essential safety-net services to eligible clients in the form of renters assistance, food vouchers, security deposits and dental assistance. In addition, case management is provided to ensure stability and success.
The State has designated the City of San Jose as the regional administrator of the HOPWA funds for San Benito County and Bay Area Counties. The City of San Jose requires that San Benito approve and sign the grant agreement first. They will then sign the grant agreement and return the signed originals to San Benito HHSA.
This grant is/will be incorporated in the annual budget process for each fiscal year.
