SBC FILE NUMBER: 430

AGENDA SECTION:

Presentations and Recognitions

BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

The month of May is recognized nationally as Mental Health Month by Consumers, Family Members, Local Mental Health Boards, County Mental Health Departments and the communities they serve. The recognition of the month of May as Mental Health Month has been a tradition for many years in San Benito County. The San Benito County Behavioral Health Department and the Local Behavioral Health Board request that the Board consider a Proclamation to recognize the month of May 2019 as Mental Health Month in San Benito County.

In recognition of the month of May as mental health month, the County Behavioral Health Department will sponsor outreach and public education opportunities through several presentations at elementary schools by the Behavioral Health case management staff.  Behavioral Health will also have an interactive booth at San Benito High School during Baler Lunch time that will promote mental health awareness and stigma reduction activities.  On May 22, Behavioral Health has scheduled an open house for the community at our downtown Esperanza Center which will be primarily hosted by consumer peer mentors.

During all the events Behavioral Health Department staff will provide mental health outreach and educational information.
