BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

Health and Human Services Agency is seeking Board approval for Enrique Arreola, Deputy Director and Sylvia Jacquez, Program Manager of Community Services & Workforce Development to participate in the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) Conference Forum 2019 scheduled for March 23-26, 2019. The FORUM 2019 will engage with national and local leaders in business, government, labor and education on high-level discussions, insights and forward thinking that address the toughest workforce-related challenges and in developing the future of work!

 

The San Benito County Workforce Development (WDB) is charged with providing workforce services at the San Benito County America's Job Center of CA (AJCC) through staff from Community Services & Workforce Services (CSWD). CSWD and it's AJCC partners provides a variety of workforce services to over 2,000 residents and provides assistance to local business to meet their workforce needs.

 

In our efforts to increase staff capacity, engage with other workforce professionals, and provide enhanced services to job seekers and the business sector, HHSA would like for CSWD to represent San Benito County at this conference.

 

The cost to attend this conference is approximately $5,614 of which has been secured through a regional training collaborative grant.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve out-of-state travel, to be conducted by HHSA-CSWD staff,  to participate in the National Association of Workforce Boards Conference from March 23-26, 2019, in Washington D.C., in the estimated amount of $2,807.00 each for a total of $5,614.
