BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

The January 17, 2019 effective service retirement date for Rita Campbell Administrative Services Manager of the Probation Department will leave a vacuum in the County's institutional knowledge of departmental Fiscal Administration. Rita is willing to come back to work for the County after retirement on a part-time basis to complete the training of one of the other recently hired Administrative Services Manager in the Office.  Current law requires retired annuitants to wait a period of 180-Days prior to rehire as extra-help. The County Probation Department is requesting the Board of Supervisors adopt Resolution requesting from CalPERS an exception from the 180-Day waiting period due to Rita's very specialized skills and expertise in departmental Fiscal and Administrative Services in the Probation Department.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

1.) Adopt Resolution, pursuant to Califoria Government Code 21224, requesting that CalPERS allow an exception from the 180-Day waiting period for extra help retired annuitants.

 

2.) Direct Human Resources Staff to email the properly executed and signed resolution along with the other documents required by CalPERS to consider the exception request.
