HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY - J. RYDINGSWORD

Approve and Authorize the Chair to Sign an Affiliation Agreement with Western Governors University (WGU) for the Placement of Student Nurses (interns) at the Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health Services Division.

SBC FILE NUMBER: 130

AGENDA SECTION:

CONSENT AGENDA

BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

WGU is one of several universities that offer Baccalaureate and Master's degrees in nursing.  A section of their curriculum requires students to complete a specified number of hours in the field of Public Health.  San Benito County Public Health hosts student nurses from California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and would like to add WGU as an additional educational partner.  Partnering with WGU, CSUMB, CSUDH and other universities allows Public Health to train nursing students as potential public health employees and increases the pool of public health nurses in the region. It also provides the division with supplemental labor through licensed student nurses as these student nurses already have Associate Degrees and registered nurse licenses.

There is no monetary requirement to enter into the agreement.
