BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
This request is being made for Captain Eric Taylor to attend the Master Instructor School and Conference for Taser International October 28 - November 2, 2018 in Mesa, AZ. Captain Taylor has held the title of Master Instructor since June 2008. He is an expert in the Taser Conducted Electrical Weapons, case law pertaining to the devices, and the technology in which they are comprised. Captain Taylor's position with Taser affords our county unprecedented access to Taser research, technology, and their legal team. This designation keeps him abreast of the most current "best practices", changes in the law, and training. Further, Captain Taylor is then able to "train the trainers" in our county, free of charge. This saves nearly $750-$1,000 per instructor. Our county will have at least six instructors, two in each probation, jail and operations. Therefore, this training will save the county nearly $4,000 plus associated travel costs, while keeping Captain Taylor's expertise up-to date with this ever changing technology and case law.

The total cost of this request is approximately $2,433 which includes the following:

Captain Taylor will be driving to Mesa saving airfare and rental car expense.
