SBC FILE NUMBER: 105
RESOLUTION NO: 2018-70
AGENDA SECTION:
REGULAR AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
Since completion of the River Parkway Master Plan several years ago, the County has been working with its partners at the San Benito High School District and the City of Hollister to acquire property for the park to begin implementing the first phase of the proposed park project. Upon execution of the multi-agency agreement between these three agencies early last year, staff has been working on the design of the proposed Regional Park Access Road. This road is now under construction with a scheduled completion date in mid-October this year.
This new road requires a name before construction is completed so that road signs can be installed, maps can be updated, and emergency personnel notified of the change.
Currently, San Benito County does not have a policy or defined procedure for selecting, recommending, and approving names of new roads and streets. Due to a short timeline and the need for a clear, descriptive name for the new road, RMA is recommending that the Board approve naming the new road River Parkway. This is the name that has been used throughout the project development and construction process and plans for the future park project. This will help the community find and access the proposed Regional Park and River Parkway trail system once completed. Alternatively, the Board can discuss a different process for determining the name for the road and provide direction to staff.
