BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The Health & Human Services Agency - Protective Services Division request to hire a Temporary/Part Time Extra Help Social Worker. This applicant is a previous employee and has gone through the hiring and background process. Since this applicant is a member of CalPERS due to her work in a previous county as well as San Benito County, CalPERS will require that the County pay for the employer's share of retirement contributions in this new assignment. This action requires Board approval since the current Personnel Rules prohibits the County from paying any retirement benefits for temporary employees.
The employee will be required to pay the employee's share of contribution to CalPERS.
Therefore, the Health & Human Services Agency is requesting a waiver of County Personnel Policies & Procedures Hand Book Rule 1.H.3 prohibiting CalPERS benefits for temporary employees. All costs are budgeted in the Health & Human Services Agency budget for fiscal year 2018 - 2019. There is no impact to the County General Fund.
