Approve procurement of two projects utilizing Homeland Security grant funds.  All projects are going directly to first responder agencies as approved and recommended by the grant approval authority (gang of 5).  Projects include Cradle point Modems ($27,762.31) for Hollister Police Department Vehicles, and Scene Light System ($17,122.25) for Hollister Police Department.

BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

Each year the San Benito County Office of Emergency Services is awarded grant funds to increase the San Benito County Operational Area’s ability to prevent, protect against, respond to, recover from, or mitigate acts of terrorism.  How this grant money is recommended for funding is through the grant approval authority, commonly known as the gang of 5, which includes the County Sheriff, the County EMS Coordinator, the Hollister Police Department Chief, The Hollister Fire Department Chief, and the County Fire Department Chief (Hollister Fire Department).

The Grant Approval Authority met and has recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve the procurement of the following projects:

 

  1.  Cradle point Modems and installation ($27,762.31) for multiple Hollister Police Department Vehicles,
  2.  Scene Light System ($17,122.25) for a Hollister Police Department truck.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Office of Emergency Services respectfully recommends that the Board of Supervisors:

  1. Accept the responsive quotes received on July 5, 2018 for the Cradle Point Modem equipment and installation and award the contract to Emergency Vehicle Specialist in an amount not to exceed $28,000,
  2. Accept the responsive quotes received on July 5, 2018 for the Scene Light System equipment and installation and award the contract to Emergency Vehicle Specialist in an amount not to exceed $17,122.25,
  3. Authorize the Emergency Services Manager to sign the purchase orders, and any other documents required to complete the purchase, subject to County Counsel's approval.
