Approve work order for the repair and improvements to the Juvenile Hall Facility in the amount of $330,346.67.

The Juvenile Hall facility is in need of repairs and improvements to correct existing safety, ADA, and maintenance issues.  The Board approved a Capital Project to address these items in fiscal year 2016-17 and design took place this year.  To save some time and help ensure the project is completed on budget, staff elected to use the Job Order Contracting process for this project.  Plans and specifications were prepared as usual for a public project and Newton Construction prepared a proposal in compliance with the Job Order Contracting process.

This project will remove the existing unsafe turf in the recreation yard and replace with a full-size basketball court.  Other exterior improvements include correcting drainage issues, creating compliant ADA parking areas and paths, and repairing damaged perimeter fencing.  Interior improvements include replacing damaged carpeting in the courtroom, day room, offices, and hallway.  New paint and drywall repair will also be completed in the courtroom and offices.  Lastly, the existing intake bathroom will be remodeled to comply with ADA and PREA requirements while the existing showers will be made to comply with PREA.

This work order is being paid with previously budgeted Capital Improvement Project funds and $6,000.00 from an agreement with the Probation Department.
