 Approve a Job Order Contracting (JOC) work order for the repair of the Jail boiler and installation of new water softening system in the amount of $136,736.95.  Authorize the RMA Director to sign the work order.  Authorize the use of $136,736.95 from general expenses.

In 2015, the Jail’s original boiler was replaced with a new unit. Since that time, the unit has failed twice. Both times, the cause of the failure was determined to be the condition of the water. Three different contractors have investigated our situation and all have advised that a water softening system will help prevent future problems and the need for continued repairs. This work order will replace the damaged boiler parts and install a new water softening system. The jail has been running off a smaller backup boiler (used for laundry and kitchen) for some time now as staff has worked to determine the best solution for future reliability of the equipment. The lead time on the new parts is approximately 5 weeks.
