Approve MOU between the Workforce Development Boards of Monterey and San Benito Counties for Pre-Apprenticeship Training Round II Grant, in the amount of $40,225.00.
SBC FILE NUMBER: 130
AGENDA SECTION:
CONSENT AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
Over the last few years, the
San Benito County Workforce Development Board has been an active partner with
Monterey County and Santa Cruz County Workforce Development Boards for the
Proposition 39 2.0 Pre-Apprenticeship Training Grant from the
State of California Workforce Development Board funded under the California
Clean Energy Jobs Act. Monterey County Workforce Development Board submitted
the grant application as the lead agent and was successful in receiving a
Round II grant in the amount of $375,000 for the tri-county region. The grant amount for SBC is $40,225.
Under
the Proposition 39 grant funds, at-risk Youth, Women and returning
Veterans will be targeted to receive training for a career in the
building trades via local regional apprenticeship programs. We hope
to improve the quality of the local youth, women, and veteran workforce and
prepare them for successful futures by developing pre-apprenticeship
programs linkages to the building trades throughout the region
focusing in the construction/energy efficiency industry. Last year San Benito County had 16 successful completions of the program and hope to double the number with an increase level of funding.
It is the goal that trainings are provided in each
County including San Benito County. This will benefit our local residents in
need of training considering that there are very few trainings being offered
locally.
This grant award was anticipated and is incorporated in the fiscal year 2018 - 2019 requested budget.
