BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
On Saturday, April 28, 2018, Community Solutions and Emmaus House will host a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes – The International Men’s March to stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. Designed as a men’s march against violence, male participants are encouraged to walk the mile in high heels. Women are also encouraged to participate in a show of solidarity. This event encourages males with our community to show their wife, girlfriend, mother, or any other women in their life that you care enough to walk a mile in their shoes.
This light-hearted event has a serious purpose: to build awareness around intimate partner abuse, sexual assault, and rape. These are inexcusable violent crimes with public health implications for every person in Hollister as a survivor, as a family member, significant other, neighbor or co-worker of a survivor.
The Walk a Mile event encourages men to literally walk in the shoes of women to raise awareness and end violence against women. The event will take place at the corner of 4th and San Benito Street in Hollister beginning at 10:00am. High heeled shoes will be provided to every male registrant. Proceeds from the event benefit Community Solutions, a nonprofit human services agency serving South Santa Clara County and San Benito County, and Emmaus House, a Hollister based domestic violence shelter for women and children.
