SBC FILE NUMBER: 420
AGENDA SECTION:
REGULAR AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The 2017-18 influenza season was predicted by Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to be a more severe than usual season due to outbreaks and aggressive flu strains tracked during the Southern Hemisphere's 2017 influenza season. In California and throughout the United States (U.S.), influenza activity has increased significantly over recent weeks with influenza A(H3N2) viruses predominating so far this season. California Department of Public Health (CDPH) surveillance data sources for the 2017–2018 influenza season indicate influenza activity is widespread throughout California and is trending up earlier than in the 2016–2017 season.
San Benito County has experienced increased influenza activity and trends as predicted by the CDC and CDPH. Public Health Services would like to provide the Board with a report and update on its 2017-18 flu season prevention, response and containment efforts in San Benito County.
