SBC FILE NUMBER: 22

AGENDA SECTION:

CONSENT AGENDA

BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

Since September of 2002, the local Child Support Services agencies of both San Benito and Santa Cruz counties have been consolidated into a Regional Department of Child Support Services.

The governance structure agreed to established a single point of contact and authority with the State Department of Child Support Services, allowed employees of each LCSA to remain as employees of their respective county, consolidated the administrative function for the two LCSA's, and maintained responsibility for the performance of case management functions with the county having jurisdiction over the case.

It has been determined by the Regional Director, and in agreement with the County Administrative Officer of both counties, that it would benefit the local San Benito Child Support Services agency to have a San Benito County employed Child Support Attorney on staff.

Currently, the San Benito caseload is being represented by Santa Cruz employed attorneys.

The time is appropriate and, due to the recent retirement of 1.0 FTE Santa Cruz Child Support Attorney, the immediate need warrants the mid-year addition of 1.0 FTE San Benito Child Support Attorney.

The cost for the salary and benefits of this position will be added to the San Benito SFY1718 budget as it will be funded from the salary savings of the retired Santa Cruz Child Support Attorney within the consolidated administrative allocation from the State.

The addition of this position will result in a no net County cost.
