BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The County Administrator’s Office has been using contract staff for more than three years to lead the human resources activities in San Benito County and is in need of full time human resources leadership. Multiple efforts to recruit a qualified individual to lead/oversee the human resources functions during this period have been unsuccessful. The County Administrator’s Office recently added the job classification and an 1.0FTE allocation of Deputy County Administrator with the intent of recruiting an individual with human resources background as well as the ability to handle other high level assignments in the County Administrator’s Office.
The County has located an individual with both strong human resources background as well as background in leadership and management who is focused on providing the leadership needed in these areas. This candidate is currently employed elsewhere and would be taking a cut in pay to accept such a position in San Benito County, but is willing to accept the position if hired at the top step of the current salary range.
This individual has many years of public sector experience as a Human Resources Director and is located within commuting distance to San Benito County, thus relocation is not a factor in this recruitment. As such, it is requested that the Board authorize the hiring of this candidate at Step G of the salary range for this position. Upon authorization by the Board, County staff will work with the candidate for a start date in the near future.
