RESOLUTION NO: 2016-52

CONSENT AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
On May 24, 2016, the Board of Supervisors approved the Office of Migrant Services (OMS) Resolution #2016-33 authorizing an agreement with the Department of Housing & Community Development for rehabilitation and improvements to the San Benito County Migrant Center. OMS has shared with the County that the resolution provided was incorrect and is now requiring that we approve a revised resolution which now includes the total award on the resolution.
The Office of Migrant Services (OMS) has informed staff that the contract will be provided once the resolution has been approved by the board. On February of 2015, the Board approved a budget augmentation for this project in the amount of $141,000. The budget allocation has now been reduced as the State is requiring that the County use funds from the reserve account to pay for a portion of the improvements. The amount currently being allocated by the State is $25,496.
A property needs assessment was conducted for the Migrant Center identifying several projects including the Slurry Seal Project and the sewer line repairs. It is the goal of staff that these two projects are completed by the end of the year. RMA has been leading the procurement process with the selection of contractors.
The Migrant Center’s mission is to foster and promote safe and affordable housing opportunities for migrant seasonal farm worker families and other community services that will allow families to thrive. The Migrant Center provides seasonal housing services for migrant farm worker families, utilizing 67, 2 and 3 bedroom units at the County’s Southside Road Migrant facilities during the period of May-November. The County has been providing these services to migrant farm workers for over 30 years.
