BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
San Benito County Integrated Waste Management Regional Agency Cost Sharing Agreement of 1995 between the County of San Benito, City of Hollilster, and City of San Juan Bautista requires the agency to coordinate the operation of Household Hazardous Waste. Medical waste, sharps, and pharmaceuticals are classified under this category per California Health & Safety Code Section 117690 & 117755.
Integrated Waste Management Regional Agency manages the processing and disposal of all household hazardous waste within the county. The vendor selected for the specialized tasks of transportation and disposal of medical waste, sharps, and pharmaceuticals is Stericycle Inc. Annual expenses for this contract will increase due to planned increases in collection sites and waste volume collected. This contract if funded through the IWM Regional Agency and State CalRecycle grant programs.
