CONSENT AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The City of Hollister will be submitting a joint application on behalf of the City of Hollister and County of San Benito. The agency benefiting from this grant will be the Hollister Police Department. Through mutual agreement,it was determined the application would be completed and administered by the City of Hollister.
The Hollister Police Department is submitting an application to the United States Department of Justice for a BJA FY 2016 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). The Police Department proposes to use the grant funds to purchase Advanced Body Armor Plate Carriers for critical incident responses. These plate carriers would help protect front line police officers as they respond to critical incidents such as active shooters, active crime scenes or other related incidents.
Because the City of Hollister and the County of San Benito fall under a disparate funding clause, the application must include a memorandum of understanding regarding the distribution of grant award funds. The attached MOU states that the County of San Benito agrees that all of the grant funds awarded for the FY 2016 JAG cycle will go to the City of Hollister.
A resolution will go to the City Council on June 13, 2016 and authorize the City Manager to apply for the grant and authorizes the execution of the MOU for the distribution of grant award funds.
