BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
This request is being made in order for Chief Probation Officer R. Ted Baraan to attend the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) 41st Annual Training Institute Conference in Cleveland, Ohio on August 28th through August 31st, 2016. Chief Baraan would travel the day before and the day after the conference, August 27th and September 1, 2016.
The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) has been in existence since 1975 and is the primary national association representing probation and parole in the United States. The APPA Learning Institutes bring together subject matter experts from across the nation to present workshops on cutting edge theory, trends, and techniques applicable to the community corrections field. Chief Baraan has been a member of APPA since 2007, is a past workshop presenter, and continues to actively serve on the APPA Health and Safety Committee, and the APPA Diversity Committee. With the impending launch of the Community Transition Center, it is crucial that the Probation Department remain abreast of current trends with re-entry strategies and day reporting centers for the criminal justice population.
Financial Consideration: The total cost of this travel request is approximately $2,000 which includes: registration ($340.00), lodging ($798.03), meals ($345.00), airfare ($515.00). Airline tickets will not be purchased until after approval.
