CONSENT AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
In 2015 the Sheriff's Office became part of a Veteran's Peer Response program that performs interventions into incidents involving veterans suffering from PTSD and TBI. In the summer of 2015 Azalea Charities donated $10,000 to this program for the purpose of assisting the response team in responding to veterans in distress.
Trauma Psychologist Mark Sandman, the founding member of this response team, has identified a critical incident stress management (CISM) training being held in San Francisco as creating a critical foundation to be utilized in field response calls for service. This is a regional training being put on by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, a worldwide recognized leader in CISM training and employing the universally accepted treatment model known as the "Mitchell Model".
Three members of the response team have been designated to attend this training. The total cost of this four day training is approximately $6,200. The cost of this training will be offset with the donation received from Azalea Charities. Therefore, it is respectfully requested your Board approve the augmentation to the Sheriff's Operations budget unit to provide for this opportunity.
