BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The passage of SB81 amended Welfare and Institution Code Section 1961(c) to require that counties prepare and submit to the Board of State Community Corrections (BSCC) for approval an annual application for the Juvenile Justice Development Plan (JJDP) to provide services for youthful offenders who have not committed an offense described in WIC Section 707(b) and who are in-custody of the county. San Benito County's estimated allotment for FY2016-2017 of the Youthful Offender Block Grant is $117,000. The funding allotment will enable the Probation Department to enhance programs that meet the needs of high-risk youth. These grant funds provide funding for counties to provide local alternatives to state commitment. The JJDP consists of an aftercare and reentry approach that provides professional services directed towards successful reentry into the community of youth that have been temporarily removed or are at-risk of removal from their homes.
