BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The MHSA emphasizes Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) as a key strategy in transforming California’s mental health system. PEI programs are required to include outreach to people who have the potential to recognize early signs of severe and potentially disabling mental illness. PEI programs also provide education focused on reduction of stigma and discrimination against people with mental illness and promote access and linkage to necessary care provided through mental health treatment at the earliest possible onset of mental illness. The Hollister Youth Alliance (HYA) is a local organization that has a history of offering prevention services and in particular services tailored for youth and their families. The Behavioral Health Department is seeking authorization to renew the contract with HYA to deliver services focused on early screening for mental health symptoms that are school based and also the delivery of two (2) youth and parent focused curriculums with a culturally relevant service delivery design tailored for the Latino community.

PEI services will be delivered at local schools and the community in general.
