CONSENT AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The County Behavioral Health Department has utilized this contractor to provide Domestic Violence Diversion Groups for DV perpetrators and also to provide group services for female victims of domestic violence. This contractor, Transcend/Christine Henriques has prior experience in providing the services required and also lives locally. The DV Victims Group emphasizes provision of education on the cycle of domestic violence, promotion of self-advocacy skills and the provision of emotional and psychological support. The DV Perpetrators Groups are required to serve clients mandated by the Courts and Probation as a component of DV diversion. The Behavioral Health Department receives funds via the State Department of Health Care Services for the County approved MHSA Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) Plan component supporting the DV Victims Groups. It is known that individuals subjected to trauma such as domestic violence are susceptible to the development of diagnosable levels of mental illness, most frequently disorders such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Major Depression. It is proven that with preventative and early intervention measures the effects of trauma can be ameliorated or eliminated to a degree that prevents the development of mental illness.
3) OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT: Services offered to the victims of domestic violence will be offered at the Emmaus House DV shelter and the Esperanza Center. Services delivered to individuals convicted of domestic violence related crimes are mandated by the County Superior Court to attend a certified and approved course of domestic violence prevention groups in fulfillment of the Court and County Probation Department mandates.
