AGENDA SECTION:
REGULAR AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The National Association of Counties, (NACo) is the leading voice for counties on a variety of issues that are important to San Benito County, its budget, constituents and quality of life. These include:
- NACo lobbied heavily in support of the recently passed Congressional FAST Act that continues federal funding for local transportation.
- NACo's Environmental, Energy and Land Use Committee is the leading voice for counties impacted by the potential expansion of the Waters of the U.S. regulations.
- NACo's priority issues include Payment in Lieu of Taxes and Secure Rural Schools.NACo is active on tribal relations and the Fee-to-Trust issue.NACo supports the continuation of tax-exempt status for municipal bonds.
These are just a few of the issues that NACo is advocting on behalf of our nation's counties, San Benito County would benefit greatly to be part of the decision-making process back in Washington D.C. Currently 54 of California's 58 counties are NACo members and CSAC is working hard to ensure California becomes a 100% member state. Doing so would not only provide our state with more votes in the upcoming NACo 2nd Vice-President Election in which San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox is a candidate. Having a California county supervisor as a NACo officer would greatly benefit San Benito and all 58 California counties.
