COUNTY ADMINISTRATION OFFICE - R. ESPINOSA

Approve out-of-state travel for County Administrative Officer, Ray Espinosa, and Chair of the Board of Supervisors, Jaime De La Cruz, to attend the annual National Association of Counties (NACO) Legislative Conference held in Washington, D.C. from February 25, 2017 - March 1, 2017, in the amount of approximately $7,630.00.

The NACO Legislative Conference, held annually in Washington, D.C., brings together over 2,000 elected and appointed county officials to focus on federal policy issues that impact counties and their residents.  Attendees participate in educational sessions and interact with federal officials.  With a new administration in Washington, D.C., it is important for county officials to demonstrate to those on Capitol Hill that federal legislation and policies have a significant impact on counties throughout the United States. 

In light of the incoming administration the discussion topics this year include: health care and specifically the Affordable Care Act; technology; transportation; environmental issues; homelessness; and public lands, among other topics.  There will also be forums addressing renewable energy and the prescription drug epidemic.  The conference concludes with a trip to Capitol Hill where county officials will have an opportunity to meet with federal officials and demonstrate to the federal legislature that counties care about the policies and legislation being created in Washington, D.C.
