BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The County has allowed a modular building at 3226 Southside Road to serve as an office, training room, and equipment storage for the County’s Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES). RACES is a volunteer team of licensed amateur radio operators that have been designated as disaster service workers and provide routine and emergency communications for the County as needed. This past winter, some serious roof leaks started to appear on this building. The RACES team has temporarily covered the roof with tarps in order to prevent further water damage to the radio equipment and the interior of the building.
The RACES organization through the San Benito County Amateur Radio Association (SBCARA) has obtained a $3,000.00 grant from the San Benito County Community Foundation to repair the roof. RACES will donate the money received from their grant to the County’s Resource Management Agency to be used towards the repair of the roof. The Resource Management Agency will allocate additional funds from the current maintenance budget as necessary to complete this repair.
