CONSENT AGENDA
BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
In 2015 the Sheriff's Office became part of a Veteran's Peer Response Program that performs interventions into incidents involving veterans suffering from PTSD and TBI. In the summer of 2016, Azalea Charities donated $10,000 to this program for the purpose of assisting the response team with training and responding to veterans in distress. An example of the success of this training offered by Psychologist Mark Sandman and his veterans peer group is reflected through the work of a correctional officer who worked with the VA to receive assistance for a veteran via a placement into long term care through the VA. This was done with collaboration with county mental health, the district attorney's office, the public defender, the courts and the soldiers family.
At this time it is requested your Board approve the appropriation increase to allow further training and certification for this much needed program.
