BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
HHSA/Public Health Services (PHS) seeks to renew the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) SNAP-Ed grant/contract that has been awarded to San Benito county for the 2013 - 2016 fiscal years cycle through a partnership with Monterey County Public Health. The new grant/contract term is Federal Fiscal Year 2016- 2019 (October 1, 2016 – September 30, 2019). The SNAP-Ed grant will allow PHS/SNAP-Ed staff to plan, coordinate and implement nutrition and physical fitness activities with local schools and community-based organizations. The goal of this grant is to improve the nutritional status and lower the obesity rates of San Benito County's low-income population in accordance with the USDA's SNAP-Ed Federal Fiscal Year 2016 Guidance. San Benito County is eligible for $186,164 for the first year, with a possible decrease in funds by 5% in years two and three of the grant cycle.
This grant/contract is part of the FY16/17 recommended budget.
