BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

The Chief Probation Officer received an invitation from the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs to participate in a the White House 21st Century Policing Briefing Series.  Since the President's Task Force on 21st Century Policing released its final report in May 2015, the White House has convened events to discuss the recommendations and broader issues related to police-community relations.  The event will provide an overview of the recommendation and allow discussion on how to implement the recommendations into everyday practice.  Additionally, Senior Administration Officials will brainstorm with attendees new ideas about how to enhance public trust and confidence in the justice system while maintaining public safety.  The briefing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 28, 2016.  The Chief Probation Officer has received a final confirmation of his attendance from the White House and is requesting the day before and day after as travel days.  Second Striker Funds will be used to offset the costs of this engagement, so there will be no cost to the County.
