Approve Proclamation to Declare October 23 to October 31, 2016 as the Behavioral Health Department’s 27^th Annual Red Ribbon Week.

The Board of Supervisors has annually recognized Red Ribbon Week through the issuing of a Proclamation proclaiming a week in October that coincides with the dates of the nationally recognized Red Ribbon Week as San Benito County’s Red Ribbon Week. During Red Ribbon Week, the Behavioral Health Department will sponsor the Red Ribbon Week Calendar and Door Decorating contest. Most of the schools throughout San Benito County have children that will participate in the contest by producing art with a new antidrug abuse theme each year. The theme for 2016 is, “The Superhero in Me is Drug Free.” The annual prevention art calendar contest winning posters will be selected on October 26 at 4:30 p.m. at Mars Hill Coffee Shop and displayed there. The artwork produced by the youth will be made into calendars that are distributed at schools and other entities.

This year the Behavioral Health Department’s annual Red Ribbon Week 3K Run will be the kick off and main event of Red Ribbon Week activities. It’s a Glow Run and is scheduled to begin in the evening at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Dunne Park. There will also be an outdoor Movie Showing at 8:00 p.m., music and raffles.
