BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
Behavioral Health clients may at times require inpatient, acute psychiatric hospital services to meet their acute care treatment needs. St. Helena Hospital is one of the few that provides services primarily for children and adolescents. It is sometimes difficult to find hospitals that will accept children/youth for treatment. The Behavioral Health Department contracts with multiple hospitals to increase the options for psychiatric hospital bed availability.
(1) OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
Most clients access psychiatric inpatient hospital care via Hazel Hawkins Hospital Emergency Dept. (HHHED). Clients receive evaluation and authorization to access psychiatric hospital services from Behavioral Health Department clinical staff. Our staff coordinates with the hospital staff and physicians to provide the appropriate associated services.
