Adopt Resolution Delegating Authority To The Director of Health & Human Services to Accept Donations Related to Child Injury Prevention.  Authorize the Safe Kids Coalition Agreement which is intended to formalize establishment of a local Safe Kids Coalition and designate San Benito County Health and Human Services Agency-Public Health Services Department as the lead agency.

BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:

Safe Kids Worldwide is a global organization dedicated to protecting children from unintentional injuries.  Safe Kids works with global partners and an extensive network of state and local coalitions in the U.S. to reduce traffic injures, drownings, falls, burns, poisonings and more.  Local coalitions conduct multifaceted childhood injury prevention efforts.  With the initial donation of car seats, it is the goal of the Public Health Division to build a broad community based coalition with the mission to reduce unintentional childhood injuries through increased public awareness, education, public policy advocacy and community action.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

1) Adopt Resolution Delegating Authority To The Director of Health & Human Services to Accept Donations Related to Child Injury Prevention.

2) Authorize the Safe Kids Coalition Agreement which is intended to formalize establishment of a local Safe Kids Coalition and designate the lead agency.

3) Authorize the County Auditor to establish a Safe Kids Fund and establish a budget for the local Safe Kids Coalition in conjunction with the HHSA.
