BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
The San Benito County Sheriff's Office is a member of the South Bay Regional Training Consortium, also known as "The Academy". The Academy operates California P.O.S.T. approved law enforcement training academies at Evergreen College (San Jose), Gavilan College (Gilroy), and Monterey Peninsula College (Monterey). Our membership in this consortium, and our place on the Southern Advisory Committee, lends us access to training and training equipment for our office.
The Gavilan College site has lost their "mat room" where they did arrest control training and scenarios. They have asked permission to move this training to the Sheriff's Office at 2301 Technology Parkway. The attached MOA would allow this to occur. In exchange, The Academy will outfit our building with proper matting and training equipment at no cost to the county. If/when the MOA is terminated, we will keep the equipment. This will be very advantageous to our deputies as it gives us a place to properly train, in our own building, without incurring any cost.
