BACKGROUND/SUMMARY:
CSWD requests adoption of a resolution to accept the 2016 Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Targeted Initiatives contract #16F-5552 through the California Department of Community Services and Development (CSD) to provide services to low-income community members. Funds for this contract will support Community Action Agency training and technical assistance needs that will enable the local Community Action Board (CAB) to build capacity and operate more efficiently to meet Organizational Standards; to support programs that focus on serving the homeless population; and to support programs, services and outreach that help low-income people claim the earned Income Tax Credit.
The Community Action Board will utilize these funds for at least one of these three priorities with the implementation of the CSBG Targeted Initiatives grant with the goal to reduce poverty, revitalize low-income communities and empower low-income families and individuals to achieve greater self-sufficiency.
This year, CSD did not release a Request For Proposal; instead they decided to award each Community Action Agency $17,000 to support at least one of the three priorities under this grant.
